Tensions between Greece and Turkey are expected to rise once again, as Turkey plans to conduct war games in several sensitive locations. Turkish air, ground, and naval units will be conducting test operations from February 27th to March 8th in the Black, Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. Increasing Turkish activity in these waters will undoubtedly add to the already extensively troubled history between the two countries. This increased volatility is also due to Turkey’s continued natural gas drilling in the eastern Mediterranean near Cyprus. Both Greece and Cyprus have expressed their disapproval over increased Turkish activity in the Aegean Sea.
