Trending Theme: US and Russian Warships in a Near Collision

Russia’s Pacific Fleet accused the guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville of making a dangerous pass in front of their destroyer Admiral Vinogradov in the East China Sea. They claimed that the two ships came within 160ft of each other and the Russian destroyer was forced to make an emergency maneuver to avoid a collision. The US Seventh Fleet responded with a conflicting account, saying the Russian ship was to blame for “unsafe and unprofessional” behavior that saw the two ships pass 50ft from one another in the Philippine Sea.

The incident comes days after a US surveillance aircraft and a Russian jet fighter saw a similar exchange off the Syrian coast.
