The US Commerce Department has added the Chinese firm China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) to its export blacklist. Following the addition, US companies must procure licenses in order to trade with CGN, which has played a major role in the construction of two nuclear power plants in the UK. For instance, CGN has provided roughly 2.7 billion pounds worth of investment for the Hinkley Point power plant, which is projected to begin producing power in 2025. The US has accused CGN of using related technologies for military purposes. Looking forward, the US may increase pressure on the UK to disengage from CGN in the nuclear power field.
