Trending Theme: Turkey to Pursue S-400s

Turkey is committed to the purchase of an advanced Russian S-400 air defense system which is expected to be delivered in July. The United States is unhappy with the deal citing that the S-400 is incompatible with NATO’s defense systems. The USA is also worried that Russian involvement in Turkey’s air defenses will give Russia a strategic advantage in intelligence. The USA has warned that they would pursue sanctions against Ankara and cut them out from the F-35 fighter jet program if they were to accept shipment. The Turkish Foreign Minister has vowed “reciprocal steps” if the USA imposes these sanctions.
