Two weeks after Indonesia held the world's largest single-day elections, the nation remains divided with both candidates continuing to claim victory over unofficial quick counts. Voting was mostly peaceful and was estimated to have drawn 80 percent of the country's total 193 million voters. The Election Commission is still counting the vote, which it’s due to be announced by May 22. This past weekend, it was reported that over 270 election officials had died due to overwork-related illnesses from counting ballots by hand after the polls. Tensions remain high after President Joko Widodo's challenger, Prabowo Subianto, disputed the initial tally and claimed "massive irregularities" over polling. His campaign team has flooded social media platforms with pleas for followers to help fight efforts to undermine the result, and his supporters have grown increasingly restless.
