A powerful grade 5 storm lashed through the eastern coast of India on May 3rd with torrential rain and winds gusting up to 200km per hour, killing at least two people and forcing a million others to look for safe shelters. Around 1.2 million people were evacuated from low-lying areas of Odisha and moved to nearly 4,000 shelters, according to India's National Disaster Response Force. Cyclone Fani is reported to be one of the biggest storms to hit the Indian Ocean. This massive storm arrived just shortly after a series of large storms also devastated the southeastern coast of Africa with Mozambique being the hardest hit and causing at least 48 fatalities. Cyclone Fani is now expected to move inland toward the southwestern part of Bangladesh.
