The United States Congress has proposed bipartisan legislation that would block the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from producing nuclear weapons. According to the proposed legislation, any agreement to share US nuclear power technology with Saudi Arabia would not allow for the enrichment of uranium or reprocessing of plutonium reactors. Concurrently, the United States seeks to win a bid for a nuclear power project in the Saudi Kingdom, which appears eager to develop its nuclear energy potential. Despite warnings from Western allies, the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has said that Saudi Arabia would develop nuclear weapons in the event that Iran reaches such a capability.
