The U.S. Department of State is reporting that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may have used chemical weapons in the northwest of the country, which also violates a ceasefire that has been protecting millions of civilians in the greater Idlib area. A warning has been issued to the Assad regime that Washington and its allies would issue a quick response if the chemical attacks are verified. The Trump administration has twice carried out strikes against President Assad’s military over alleged chemical weapons use.
