Trending Theme: New Israeli Elections to take Place Following Failure to Form Government

The Israeli Parliament voted to dissolve itself late Wednesday in response to the inability of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a government following the election in April. Netanyahu had been tasked with assembling a governing coalition but had failed to do within the requisite deadline. The Israeli parliament then voted to dissolve itself and hold new elections instead of offering opposition leader Benny Gantz the opportunity to form a governing coalition. The new elections will be held on September 17th.

This marks the first time in Israel’s history that a government has been unable to form following a parliamentary election.
