Due to fears of vote manipulation, the results of the Presidential race for the Democratic Republic of the Congo have been postponed. Election observers fear that this delay could lead to violence, as it has in previous elections. This election could be a pivotal point in the country’s history as its previous ruler, Joseph Kabila, has ruled the conflict-prone country for nearly two decades. A peaceful transition of power would be a monumental step forward for the country.
