Today, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani encouraged crowds of Iranians in Tehran to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Revolution, which ousted Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in 1979. The celebrations come at an unstable time for Iran as economic troubles are amplified by renewed US sanctions intended to punish Iran’s military activity in the region and their continued pursuit of a ballistic missile program. Iran hopes to prosper despite sanctions and contentious rhetoric coming from Washington.
