Trending Theme: Heat Wave Leaves Thousands Hospitalized in Japan

Reports indicate that nearly 60 people have died and 18,000 hospitalized in one week due to a heat wave in Japan. The number of hospitalizations during this week jumped to three times the amount from the previous week. Temperatures reached 38.4 C (101 F) in Kumagaya, a city northwest of Tokyo, and 36.9 C (98.4 F) in Fukushima and Osaka. Reports also indicate that the highest number of hospitalizations occurred in the capital city of Tokyo.

There are growing concerns that the high temperatures could cause similar deaths during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics next summer.
