In an effort to slow the spread on the COVID-19 pandemic, more governments are recommending, and in some cases enforcing social distancing efforts. US President Donald Trump has recommended that Americans avoid unnecessary travel and gatherings of more than ten people, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he would deploy one hundred thousand police officers to enforce a country-wide lockdown, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson advised Britons to avoid all nonessential contact. Furthermore, the European Union has proposed a ban on most travel into the bloc.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has stressed that even with social distancing efforts reducing the rate at which the coronavirus spreads, an immediate rollout of mass testing programs is essential to stopping the virus. Such mass testing programs, however, are yet to be realized in many countries.
