Despite efforts from the Chinese government to contain the Corona virus, confirmed cases of the disease have been reported in over 20 countries. The World Health Organization has warned countries against the restriction of travel or trade since this could lead to severe economic consequences, yet Hong Kong, Vietnam, Australia, and the United States have all placed travel restrictions.
Hong Kong is closing 10 of its 13 border crossings with China, and Vietnam has banned all flights to and from China. Australia and the United States have temporarily banned entry from all foreign nationals who recently traveled to China. In addition, more neighboring countries are expected to announce similar travel bans in the days to come. The fallout from the virus is estimated to reduce global economic growth to its lowest level since the 2008 financial crisis.
