
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has suffered a defeat in Parliament after twenty-one members of his own political party joined with opposition members to advance legislation that would prevent Britain’s exit from the European Union on October 31, 2019, without a deal. Prime Minister Johnson and his supporters would like to see the realization of Brexit at the end of October, regardless of a deal with the EU, however, the Prime Minister has now lost his majority in Parliament. Prime Minister Johnson has said that he will seek to hold snap elections on October 15, 2019, which could reshuffle the government. Prime Minister Johnson has faced heavy scrutiny, even from members of his own party, after his decision to suspend Parliament during a critical time for debate in the run-up to the October 31 deadline.
