Thailand’s newly confirmed civilian Prime Minister, Prayuth Chan-ocha will chair ASEAN’s 34th Summit. The ten member states are expected to release the “ASEAN Indo-Pacific Outlook” outlining a united vision for the region. It follows policy reports unveiled earlier in 2019 including “France and security in the Indo-Pacific” and US’ “Indo-Pacific Strategy Report.” ASEAN leaders are also set to discuss Rohingyas in Rakhine State with many criticizing State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, who will be in attendance, over her handling of the crisis. The US-China trade war will likely dominate talks with Southeast Asian countries increasingly caught up in trade tensions.
