Kabul bombing targets education center

A suicide bomber in the Dasht-e Barchi area of Kabul, Afghanistan detonated himself in an attack that has killed upwards of 50 people in an education center that was responsible for funding tuition for Afghan students. The bomber hid away explosives under his belt while classes were in session. Although the Taliban has denied any involvement in the attack, they are certainly the dominant force in the country and have already been responsible for widespread destruction and terrorism across the country. Moreover, the Taliban did not guarantee the security of Red Cross personnel to operate in the city just hours before the attack occurred, which certainly could be regarded as ominous foreshadowing of a forthcoming attack. Many of the victims were also of Shia background, which is in stark contrast to Taliban ideology. Shias and the minority Hazara group, which by and large adheres to Shiism, have been particular targets selected by the Taliban. This in part is due to the perception of Shiism being a heretic interpretation of Islam and historical ethnic tensions existing with the Hazaras for over a century.
